Augustino Lucano, a South Sudanese living in Calgary, shares how his passion for peace became 'unstoppable', helping to resolve years of conflict in his home state of Eastern Equatoria.

Sunnybrook United Church in Red Deer, Alberta was the setting for ceremonies held on June 30th 2012 to remember the children who attended the Red Deer Indian Industrial School from 1893 to 1919. Bill McLean, of the StoneyFirst Nation, whose father, Chief Walking Buffalo, attended the school,participated in the ceremonies along with several other Albertans who have been involved with Initiatives of Change - Charlene Bearhead, Maggie Hodgson, Jack Freebury, and Keith and Joy Newman.

A promotional video for Creators of Peace Circles in Canada has just been completed. Filmed by intern Tim Hall working alongside FLTfilms North America manager, Chris Hartnell, the video seeks to inform and inspire women to take part in Creators of Peace Circles. Women in the video are some of the participants of Peace Circles held in the Metro Vancouver area over the past 4 years

Three churches in North Vancouver joined together to hold aseries of events on the theme of Interfaith Peace Making, using film and dialogue. The first event took place on May 27th when The Imam and the Pastor was screened.

As part of data collection for thedevelopment of the IofC Canada archives, Elaine Gordon spent two weeks in May in Alberta and B.C. and conducted live interviews with severalpioneers of MRA/IofC.

The 2012 NDHR celebration in Edmonton on June 8th was co-sponsored this year by The African Centre and the Native Counselling Services of Alberta.

The event brought together members of the African and Aboriginal communities at a unique cultural celebration of drumming, dance, conversation and food.

Peter Heyes, a retired high school teacher from northern Alberta, has participated as facilitator and mentor in 5 Action for Life programs in India and SE Asia. He is also on the Board of Directors of ICA Cambodia (the name of IofC in Cambodia) and made a number of visits to Cambodia over recent years. On 20 May Peter was invited to meet with a group of Cambodians who live in the Calgary area.

A two and a half day honest conversation and trustbuilding workshop for the South Sudanese people of Jonglei State took place 11-13 May. Using the tools and skills learned during the workshop some of the participants will travel to Jonglei State this summer to conduct grassroots community workshops.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) recently held events over two days in Victoria BC that marked the culmination of four other public hearings in different areas of Vancouver Island. It offered a unique experience to all Canadians, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, to 'bear witness' to the experiences of those who had attended residential schools.
