Nigeria: the story of the Imam and Pastor

Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa, a Muslim imam, was once committed to the total Islamization of Nigeria. James Movel Wuye, a Christian pastor, was just as committed to its evangelization. They were bitter enemies, determined to kill each other. Today they are friends and joint directors of an NGO, the Interfaith Mediation Centre in Kaduna, one of the most important cities in northern Nigeria. The archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, has called their story “a model for Christian Muslim relations”.

Siete personas murieron por una bomba que destruyó un autobús en el suburbio Eastleigh de Nairobi, el domingo 18 de noviembre. En el momento de la explosión, el imán Muhammad Ashafa y el pastor James Wuye se dirigían a un grupo de líderes musulmanes y cristianos en Eastleigh. Durante la noche hubo ataques de represalia, dejando seis muertos.

Seven people were killed by a bomb that tore through a bus in the Nairobi suburb of Eastleigh on Sunday 18 November. At the time of the explosion, Imam Muhammad Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye were addressing a group of Muslim and Christian leaders in Eastleigh. During the night there were reprisal attacks, leaving six people dead.

Medios de Comunicación y Mediación en Chad

Los pacificadores nigerianos, el pastor James Wuye y el imán Muhammad Ashafa y el productor británico, el Dr. Alan Channer, fueron invitados por la ONU a Chad, del 24 de marzo al 2 de abril. Su visita, bajo el tema "Medios de Comunicación y Mediación", fue parte del esfuerzo de la PNUD, para desarrollar habilidades de mediación y consolidación de la paz entre una red recién formada de mediadores en Chad.

Médias et médiation au Tchad

Le pasteur James Wuye et l’imam Muhammad Ashafa, artisans de paix nigérians et le Dr. Alan Channer, réalisateur britannique, étaient invités au Tchad par les Nations Unies du 24 mars au 2 avril. Leur visite, ayant pour thème « Médias et médiation », fait partie d’un projet du Programme des Nations Unies pour le développement (PNUD), de former à la médiation et à l’instauration de la paix les membres d’un tout nouveau réseau de médiateurs tchadiens.

Media and Mediation in Chad

Pastor James Wuye, Imam Muhammad Ashafa and British filmmaker Dr Alan Channer were invited to Chad by the United Nations from 24 March – 2 April. Their visit, under the theme ‘Media and Mediation’, was part of a bid by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to build skills in mediation and peace-building amongst a newly-forged network of Chadian mediators.
